He mentioned a directive from the President which indicates an instruction which every District across the country to engage in desiltation of all gutters in flood prone areas in their communities on Saturday 4th July, 2026.
MCE proposed that a demarcation of gutters should be made for shops in front of the gutters. Two strategies were stated- which were:
1. Short Term: this has got to do with the normal clean up exercise which is always carried out first Saturday of every month.
2. Medium Term: this has got to do with the dredging of gutters
Some flood prone and desiltation points were identified for the dredging exercise. These are: In front of the GCB Bank Ltd., Police Station, Patriensa Zongo Area, Konongo Commercial Areas and Odumasi Zongo.
The Municipal Coordinating Director consulted the members for ways to achieve results for this distillation and cleanup exercise. Some possible solutions were mentioned and accepted as stated below:
1. NADMO Staff, Engineers and Municipal Environment Analyst should visit to access the site
2. There should be dredging and creation of gutters on both sides on the Patriensa and Odumasi flood prone areas
3. Delegate and pay Zoomlion to handle the commercial areas- they have the needed machines and logistics
4. Allow service providers(Cleaning Organisations) to handle the other areas of the the town
Medium Term Dredging Development
1. Talk to shop owners closer to or in front of gutters
2. Handover gutter supervision to collectors
3. Waste bins have been distributed to the market traders at a charge
